Childcare Provided by SKEF

SKEF - Salem-Keizer Education Foundation will be providing childcare before and after school this year.   Dear Englewood Parents,             We have the opportunity to partner with the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation (SKEF) for before and after school child care next year. SKEF has operated Enrichment Academy (EA) for the past 10 years and worked in 22 schools last year. EA is academically aligned with the Salem-Keizer Public Schools’ strategic plan and is designed to inspire learning, keep kids safe, help working families and reduce hunger. EA is licensed by the State of Oregon Childcare Division and exceeds all division standards of care, health and safety.                            SKEF has been recognized for innovative use of best practice programs by the Lights On After school Hall of Fame and is the Oregon Ambassador for the National After School Alliance, promoting quality standards in after school programs. The National School Foundation Association calls SKEF one of the leading education foundations in the country and Education Northwest counts SKEF as a best-practice provider of after school programs.  Curriculum weaves together various subject areas. For example, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) comic book class might be offered using literacy-based instruction. A student might design a comic book based around a GPS geocaching treasure hunt or the adventures of a fantasy sports team. The experience teaches concepts such as story line and character development while integrating math, probability and statistics, and daily reading.  EA activities include literacy, leadership, health and wellness, Readers Theater, drama, chess, volleyball, wrestling, soccer and healthy cooking. EA also provides a school homework support programs staffed by AVID trained tutors. Other STEM offerings range from Lego Robotics and Kids invent to MOUSE Squad and Learning Gardens.
