Hello Englewood Parents,

The Holidays are over and it is too cold to go outside to play!!! So what better time to help the Family Fun Night Committee plan one of our biggest and exciting festivities we have at Englewood.

Save the date: Our Family Fun Night is Friday, April 4th!!!

We would like to invite you to our next Family Fun Night planning meeting!
When: Thursday, January 30th
Where: Englewood Media Center
Time: 6:00-7:30pm (Don’t worry if you will be late, or have to leave early)

We have a great group of parent volunteers within our Englewood Community. We would to extend an invitation to parents of all grades to come and join the Family Fun Night Committee.

We are currently looking for people help coordinate the following committees:
Retro vintage pop art cowboy cowgirl boots shoes Cushion Cover both sides Throw Pillow Case 18" 45 cm Sofa bed home Decoration cute colorGame Coordinator: (Games have be selected already, but any new ideas are great!) Helps construct games & activities. Promotes the Family Fun Night THEME to ensure all event decorations flow with the theme. Makes game description posters and backdrops. Monitors progress on collection of materials to be used for game booths. Determines where games will be located based on specific needs of games/activities
Decoration Coordinator: Creates or buys decorations. Determines what general decorations will be needed (except booths—which are to be decorated by game coordinator). Coordinates purchase, construction, set-up, and removal of decorations (except booths). Promotes the Family Fun Night THEME to ensure all event decorations flow with the theme.
Advertisement/Event Promotions: Design and create posters and flyers. Event Program (including games, activities, and sponsor recognitions). School newsletter
Family Fun Night Co­Chair: Shares duties with current Family Fun Night Chair which include planning and working with all committees to make sure things run smoothly for Family Fun Night Day.

~ The money raised at Family Fun Night raises every year is used to fund field trips, buy technology equipment for our classrooms, and fulfill grade level requests. All funds raised go right back to benefit our students.

Family Fun Night is Coming!



Box Tops Classroom Challenge First Week

Over 1,800 box tops were counted by volunteers today. We will count every Friday, until the contest ends Friday, February 21.
 

The class that brought in the most Box Tops so far is Mrs. Zade's 4th Grade class. They brought in over 300! Very impressive!






You can take a look at the classroom's progress each week on the bulletin board near the office. 
Each popcorn kernel = 20 box tops

The desire for a Salem Eco-School Network is emerging. All interested parents and teachers from each district and private school in the area are invited to attend an informational meeting on February 11 to learn more about this idea and to contribute their thoughts. The meeting will be of great interest to any parent or teacher who is or would like to advance sustainability initiatives at a school.
 
The Salem Eco-School Network idea is supported by Straub Environmental Center and the Center for Earth Leadership, which formed similar networks in Portland, Beaverton, Corvallis, and Lake Oswego school districts. 
 
At the meeting parents from the Portland Eco-School Network will share about their experience and Center representatives will lead a discussion on how the program might benefit Salem schools.

Box Tops Classroom Competition

We are having a friendly competition between all the classes to see who can collect the most Box Tops for the next month, ending Friday February 21.   Send (clipped) Box Tops to your children’s class rooms and they will be collected and counted each Friday before 02/21.  Our first collection day will be Friday Jan. 24th.  The top 3 winning classes will be awarded with a popcorn party!
Be sure to watch for Box Tops on products and promotions in grocery stores.  Every single Box Top and every bonus coupon will count towards the class totals. Please do not send Box Tops with expired dates; they will not count!!!

Reminder: January PTC Meeting Cancellation.




Please note that our normally scheduled Parent Teacher Club meeting for this Thursday, Jan. 9, is cancelled. We will be gearing up for a bigger meeting in February (Thursday, 02/13) to go over upcoming events, new positions opening up for the 2014/15 school year, and a review of past events.

We hope you have had a WONDERFUL break and are ready to jump back into school rested and renewed!

The Englewood Parent Teacher Club is hosting its 14th Annual Family Fun Night on April 4th.

In order to prepare for this large event, we are in need of many parents to help in many areas. This is a great way to network with many parents within all grade levels as well as a great fundraiser to help support the school.

How can you help? We will be having a Family Fun Night planning meeting in the Library. We will be in one of the back rooms.

Please bring any ideas and suggestions you have and where you plan to help out.

Family Writing Workshop


The Oregon Writing Project

Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:00 pm.

In the Englewood Gymnasium


 
The Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University offers fun, interactive and educational family programs focused on increasing student achievement in the area of literacy. 

 
The sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes.  There is a maximum of 40 attendees per session, so we need all students and family participant to please reserve their place.    

 
Session 1 “Family ‘Pop-up’ Books” 
Students and their parents will discuss their favorite books and then work together to create a "pop-up" book to celebrate these favorite stories.  

 
Session 2 "Family Journals" 
Students and their parents are invited to a night of writing, decorating, and fun as they create together a family journal that can be used for years of writing together.

 
We are asking for a $1.00 sign-up fee per attendant to hold your spot. A flyer will be sent home, and there will be a sign-up sheet in the office.
